The design criteria are those set of conditions that the new building needs to satisfy in order to meet the requirements of:-

  • the current users of the Parish Room
  • potential new users of the Community Building
  • any requirements laid on us by the Diocese
  • and all legal requirements pertaining to disability access, toilet facilities, health and safety etc.

A formal specification has yet to be developed but the guidelines are:-

  • A main room floor area of, at least, twice the existing floor area.
  • The main room to be capable of being divided into two rooms with reasonable sound insulation between them allowing for two simultaneous activities that do not interfere with each other (given a reasonable noise level in each).
  • Access for wheelchair users to all areas of the building with doorways wide enough and level or ramped access passages.
  • At least one fully equipped toilet for the disabled with emergency call facility sounding in both the Community Building and the church.
  • A kitchen with room for catering standard sink(s?), cooker, refrigerator and freezer. Room also to allow storage facilities for existing ware and dry goods.
  • An office space.
  • An external gardener's store.
  • A sizeable lobby area permitting comfortable socialising with room for information racks etc.
